Confidence Draining Friends & Colleagues

Confidence Draining Friends & Colleagues

It’s important to surround yourself with people who have positive effects on our levels of both self-esteem and confidence, but let’s face it… this is definitely not always the case. We all know those people who are always positive, happy, and joyful to be around, right? How do they make you feel? Exactly the same! We soak up all those positive vibes.

And then there’s the opposite… We also know someone who always seems to have something to complain about. They don’t like seeing their peers being successful, they never get opportunities, they didn’t receive a large bonus like the guy down the hall — everything is just so negative! While the positive people build you up, these guys bring you down. These are your energy drainers! Fun-Sucker-Outters! Emotional Sponges! I could go on, but you get the point. They bring you down to their level, while devouring your positivity, and light… and what’s worse is… YOU allow it!

Family members can be the worst, but remember, you can always choose your friends, you can never choose your family!

So you ask, what do I do to inculcate with the right crowd? A crowd of non-toxic, healthy, like-minded humans with heart and tenacity, that are not completely full of themselves?

I’m so glad you asked!

  1. YOU and only YOU have the power to choose who and what you associate with. Ideally you want happy, growth-minded, vibrant and positive association. Find others who align with how you want to be energy-wise.

  2. If you have “good friends” who are negative or toxic, are they really considered good friends, and why? Remember, you choose your path! This is your life, make a point of letting them know how you feel — if they are a true friend they will respect you and even thank you. If they are occasionally negative, just acknowledge this is who they are, and you can live with it or find new friends. Choose YOU and block out the negativity.

  3. The same can be said with family. Your more mature family members have behaviors that have been conditioned for years and years and from different eras. Appreciate where they have obtained this behavior and as in number 2 above, elicit and select the information that filters through to your brain.

  4. Remember, that nothing has meaning in life EXCEPT the meaning that you give it.
